The Hierophant
Keywords: Teacher, mentor, education, religion, advice, learning
Yes/No: Undecided
Upright: The Hierophant is similar to the High Priestess as they are both teachers of the light, but the Hierophant is more religious-focused. He too sits between two pillars, indicating duality, which is usually good and evil. There are lots of religious references here with the 3 crosses on his robe, his scepter is a triple cross, and he holds his hand up in a pose known as the benediction, all of these symbolizing the holy trinity (mind, body, and spirit). The monks also are religious references as one wears roses, which are associated with the Virgin Mary, and the other wears white lilies, which symbolize purity. This card also speaks to this person being someone who has lots to teach others so it could mean you may be working with a mentor or going back to school. The keys crossed at his feet mean he has knowledge to share and the blue scarf around his throat indicates that he is speaking the truth.
Reversed: This card in reverse means that you should be challenging the status quo and looking within for answers. Maybe the spiritual beliefs that you have had your whole life no longer seem to fit your beliefs, but you feel you are doing wrong by going against them. It is ok to explore your beliefs to find something that speaks to your heart best. You are being encouraged to trust yourself and what you believe is right.
